Need a Long-Term Solution to Missing Teeth?
Let's Talk About It

Dental Implants

Imagine you’re out for dinner with friends. Do you feel comfortable ordering anything you want? Or do you stick with softer foods because it hurts to chew, or are you worried that your removable dentures will shift and create an awkward moment?

Lost function is just one issue you face with missing teeth; fortunately, these limitations can be a thing of the past with dental implants. At SJ Dental, we place and restore implants, allowing you to complete the entire process in the comfort of our Twinsburg dental office with a team you know and trust.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a long-term tooth replacement that replicates a natural tooth from root to crown. The system consists of three parts:

  • A titanium post surgically placed in the jawbone acts as an artificial tooth root
  • An abutment that connects to the post and extends above the gum line
  • A custom crown, bridge, or denture that attaches to the abutment to restore function

The Life-Changing Benefits of Dental Implants

A dental implant fills the gap in your smile, but there are numerous other benefits to consider when deciding if this tooth replacement is right for you.

Natural Look and Feel

Implants simulate real teeth so well that most people won't know they’re not your natural teeth, and you can eat, smile, speak, and laugh confidently.

Superior Stability

Implants anchored in the jawbone eliminate slipping, clicking, and movement common with removable dentures. Eat, speak, and smile with confidence again.

Improved Chewing

With nearly full biting force restored, you can comfortably chew foods like tough meats or crunchy vegetables without discomfort or worry.

High Success Rate

With proper care, a dental implant’s success rate exceeds 95 percent. This proven track record makes implants a reliable, predictable tooth replacement.

Long Lasting

Unlike bridges that need replacing every 10–15 years or dentures requiring refitting, implants can last a lifetime with good oral hygiene and regular dental care.

Preserves Jawbone

The titanium post stimulates the jawbone like natural tooth roots to help prevent bone loss that commonly occurs with tooth loss and maintain facial structure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most adults with missing teeth are excellent candidates for dental implants, especially if they have good overall health and adequate jawbone to support the implant. However, certain conditions may require treatment before we can proceed with implant placement.

Ideal Implant Candidates

The best dental implant candidates share several key characteristics:

  • Sufficient jawbone density
  • Healthy gums
  • Good overall health
  • Non-smoker or willing to quit
  • Commitment to oral hygiene

Preparing for Dental Implant Success

  • Treat Gum Disease— If you have periodontal disease, we need to eliminate the infection before placing your implant. Gum disease creates an environment where implants can't integrate properly with your bone, so we'll get your gums healthy first.
  • Build Up Your Bone — If your jawbone lacks sufficient density, bone grafting can create a solid foundation for your implant. This procedure adds bone material to deficient areas, where it integrates over several months. For upper back teeth, a sinus lift may be necessary to create adequate space between your jaw and sinus cavity.
  • Address Tobacco Use — Smoking restricts blood flow to your gums, which dramatically slows healing and increases your risk of implant failure. We strongly encourage patients to quit smoking before implant surgery for long-term success.
  • Manage Chronic Conditions — Diabetes or osteoporosis don't necessarily disqualify you, but they do require careful management. We'll work closely with your physician to ensure your condition is well-controlled before proceeding.

What Are Steps for Getting a Dental Implant

  1. Comprehensive Evaluation — Using advanced 3-D imaging technology, we evaluate your jawbone density, oral health, and specific needs. Precise planning is the key to long-term implant success.
  2. Bone Grafting (If Needed) — Some patients require bone grafting before implant placement to strengthen areas where bone loss has occurred. We offer this service and will let you know if it’s appropriate after a thorough evaluation.
  3. Implant Placement — We perform placement under local anesthesia, precisely positioning the titanium post in the jawbone.
  4. Healing and Integration — Over the next three to six months, the jawbone and implant fuse through a natural process called osseointegration. We’ll monitor your progress during healing to ensure everything proceeds as planned.
  5. Final Restoration — Once integration is complete, we attach your custom restoration. Single implants receive individual crowns, multiple missing teeth can be replaced with implant-supported bridges, and full arches can be restored with implant-supported dentures.
